Pomona College
The Pomona College is a personal liberal arts college situated in
Claremont, California, United States. Pomona College is an exclusively
undergraduate four-year institution and enrolled approximately 1,600 students
in fall 2012.
The founding person in the Claremont Colleges, Pomona College is really a
non-sectarian and coeducational school. Since 1925, the Claremont Colleges

Pomona College Courses
Any student who is attending Pomona College can enroll in up to 50% of
their classes at one other four colleges in the Claremont Colleges. This policy
is similar over the Claremont Colleges. It is meant to offer students the
resources of a bigger university while maintaining the positive qualities of a
small liberal arts college. Through the Claremont Colleges, Pomona College
students have access to over 2200 courses every year including 230 English
courses and 140 mathematics courses. 81% of Pomona College students take one or
more class at another college. The average class size at Pomona College is 15.
All classes are taught by professors and there's an 8:1 ratio of students to
professors. 85% of faculty live within 5 miles of campus and 90% of all classes
have under 30 students. Students take one or more course in every one of five
areas: Creative Expression, Social Institutions and Human Behavior, History,
Values, Ethics and Cultural Studies, Physical and Biological Sciences and
Mathematical Reasoning.
Several academic centers are available at Pomona College. The Writing
Center offers free confidential consultations for students with student Writing
Fellows. Writing Fellows work to improve both individual papers and work with
students to produce writing skills. The Quantitative Skills Center provides
one-on-one tutoring and workshops for almost any students seeking to boost with
their quantitative skills. The Foreign Language Resource Center provides
language equipment, tutoring and books for students and faculty. The Pacific
Basin Institute provides support for the Asian Studies program and hosts
workshops and conferences in those topics. 55% of Pomona College students study
abroad mostly in the junior year. Pomona College offers 49 programs in 32 countries.
Students can study abroad in any major and petition to review abroad in some
other program. Pomona College has 47 majors, the students who wish to create
their own major are eligible to take action following specific guidelines. The
10 most popular declared majors for Spring 2014which are: Economics,
Mathematics, Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, Computer Science, Chemistry,
Environmental Analysis, Public Policy and English.
ADMISSIONS
The Class of 2013 had a record low acceptance rate of 12.16% (939/7724). A
record amount of enrollment deposits pushed the yield rate to nearly 50%. Of
the admitted class, median scores for accepted students were 740 for the SAT
Critical Reading, 740 for the SAT Math, 750 for the SAT Writing, and 33 for the
ACT of the students whose high schools reported a class rank, 93% of these were
in the top decile of the class, 40% were valedictorians or salutatorians and
47.7% of these ranked in the top 1% of the senior school class. The class was
evenly divided when it comes to gender and 75.7% of the students hailed from
beyond California. More than 46% of the admitted students were students of
color. No students were flourished the waitlist and the overall Early Decision
acceptance rate was 18.6% (173/930). Of transfer applicants for the 2014-2015
year, 3.78% were admitted (13/344) and 5 of the admitted students enrolled at
Pomona College.
Pomona College Campus is really a Posse Foundation and QuestBridge partner college
and has different admissions processes for both. Pomona College can also be
area of the Say Yes Education Compact which offers full tuition scholarships to
youth in inner city.
